Tenerife's Santa Cruz Carnival is barely over but organisers are already discussing next year's event.
According to News in the Sun, the carnival in 2010 will take a History of Mankind theme and, for the first time, organisers are planning to elect a carnival king as well as a carnival queen.
"The candidates will be judged on the same criteria as the carnival queen, including costumes and gala performance," the news provider said.
Carnival officials have said that preparations for next year are already near completion and a competition to design the promotional poster for 2010 will be launched in April.
Elsewhere in the Canaries,
Gran Canaria's
Maspalomas Carnival got underway earlier this week.
Festivities continue until March 12th and visitors can expect parades, competitions, galas, dances and musical performances.
Highlights of the event include the election of the carnival queen and the Tourist Gala.
