Holidaymakers returning to the island of
Tenerife may be surprised at the transformation which has taken place in Santa Cruz.
According to
Tenerife News, the capital has "created a new image" and is home to some impressive architecture.
Even the airport terminal has undergone a makeover, with Canary architects Antonio Corona, Arsenio Perez Amaral and Eustaquio Garcia Martinez creating a spectacular wooden archway over the main hall.
In the city centre, holidaymakers can visit the newly renovated Plaza de Espana, which is surrounded by impressive modern buildings and features a fountain and central lake.
A number of areas within the city have also been pedestrianised and a new arts centre is due to open in the near future.
Santa Cruz is located in the north-east of the island and is the administrative capital of the western
