The island if
Tenerife is largely associated with great beaches, great weather and great visitor facilities; however, according to one travel writer, there is much more to the island than that.
Writing in the Mirror, Susie Boniface said that
Tenerife has plenty of things you don't expect, such as "amazing" food and drink, fantastic cultural attractions, tame whales and soaring volcanoes.
The island, a large part of which is a world heritage site, was once thought to be the Lost City of Atlantis.
Rising above the island is Mount Teide, which is Spain's highest peak and an active volcano although it hasn't erupted for many years.
Ms Boniface described a visit to
Tenerife's newly opened Siam Park as the "highlight" of her trip.
The water park is home to some of the world's most impressive slides and facilities, with massive pools, wave machines and even a manmade beach filled with sand imported from the Algarve.
"It was all too short a trip but one which simply serves to whet the appetite for plenty of sun, black sand and amazing food and experiences," she commented.
