Brits jetting abroad this summer have been offered some advice by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
First and foremost, holidaymakers are advised to take out a comprehensive insurance policy that provides cover for all of their needs.
Although it is also advisable to apply for a European Health Insurance Card, these do not cover the cost of repatriation to the UK in the event of an emergency or lost luggage and cancellations.
"Your travel insurance will probably be invalid if you have an accident whilst under the influence of alcohol, check the small print," the FCO recommended.
Other top tips include photocopying passports and important documents, keeping valuables in a safe place and reporting the loss of any stolen items immediately.
In related news, a recent poll carried out by Tesco Personal Finance revealed that an increasing number of Brits are planning to book last-minute holidays to
Tenerife and other destinations this summer.
