Despite the recession, Brits are still looking to escape the UK this summer and, according to new research by American Express, people are looking for cheap and cheerful destinations
In a recent poll carried out by the organisation, one in six people said that price is the biggest factor when it comes to choosing a holiday for this year.
Sunny destinations such as
Tenerife and
Lanzarote are also likely to be popular this year, with 11 per cent of people looking for good weather.
Chris Rolland, head of American Express travel insurance services, said: "Clearly Britons are feeling the strain in the UK at the moment - finances are stretched, jobs are scarce and morale is low. People are understandably keen to get away on a much needed holiday."
Although people are eager to save money, he advised against trying to cut back on travel insurance.
Research by Direct Line recently revealed that despite the credit crunch, two-thirds of holidaymakers still set money aside for duty-free shopping at the airport.
