Those taking holidays in Tenerife in the near future may be lucky enough to spot a humpback whale and her baby.
The pair have been spotted off the north-west coast of the island, much to the delight of local whale experts, Island Connections reports.
According to the
Canary Islands' Society for the Study of Whales, humpback sightings are quite rare; however two sightings were reported last year.
The sightings suggest that the animals feel at ease in the waters off the coast of
Tenerife and indicate that government measures to prevent whaling have been a success.
In related news, Tenerife has been described as a magical island, with something to offer all holidaymakers.
Writing in the Evening Telegraph, Paul Whyatt said the island and its surrounding waters are home to dozens of interesting species.
