Those taking holidays to
Tenerife this summer may be interested to hear that a Jeremy Clarkson book has topped a poll of favourite beach reads.
In a survey carried out by Teletext, the Top Gear star's bestseller For Crying Out Loud was named as the best holiday book of all time.
Marian Keyes took second place for her novel This Charming Man, while Alex Garland came third with The Beach.
Other works that made the top 20 include the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice, High Fidelity by Nick Hornby and Sebastian Faulks' Devil May Care.
Commenting on the findings, Victoria Sanders, a spokesperson for the company, said: "Books and the beach go hand in hand so we wanted to find out what makes the perfect page-turner for the sun lounger. The list has thrown up a few surprises we never though Jeremy Clarkson would come out on top."
In a poll carried out earlier this year by Skyscanner, books were named as the number one travel accessory for British holidaymakers.
