Los Guios beach in Los Gigantes, Tenerife reopens 17 months after two women were killed by a rockslide.
The beach had been closed following the trafic death during a heavy fall of rock from the cliff behind. Investigations to find someone responsible laid the blame partly on the local council who failed to cordon off the cliff area after a previous rock slide.
Work carried out to the beach includes improving the lighting and public toilets as well as the restraining and reinforcing of the cliff wall with anchor points, cement and thick steel netting. Local shopkeepers were delighted and amazed at the way news had spread so quickly.
