Tenerife's iconic volcano Mount Teide last week played host to a number of lunar explorer robots designed by European students.
The volcanic peak was chosen due to its unusual landscape and steep dust-covered terrain.
According to LosGigantes.com, the students were partaking in a robotics competition organised by the European Space Agency (ESA).
Commenting on the challenge, Gianfranco Visentin, head of the Automation and Robotics Laboratory in ESA's European Space Research and Technology Centre, said: "We chose Teide because we wanted to have tough conditions. And that's exactly what we got."
Meanwhile, visitors to
Tenerife can take a closer look at the peak by visiting Teide National Park, where the mountain can be accessed by foot or by cable car.
On a clear day the islands of
La Gomera,
El Hierro and
Gran Canaria can be seen from the summit, according to canaries-live.com.
