The majority of Brits are planning to jet abroad this year to escape the recession and dismal UK weather, it has been discovered.
In a poll carried put by Gocompare, 76 per cent of respondents said they are hoping to take a holiday to
Tenerife or another popular destination in the near future.
Of those polled, 56 per cent claimed they intend to jet off within the next six months.
Just 19 per cent of people rejected the idea of an overseas break.
Lee Griffin, business development director for the website, said that although the strength of the euro is making it more expensive for Brits to travel abroad, there are a number of ways in which people can save money.
He noted that opting for an annual travel insurance policy is often cheaper than buying single-trip cover, particularly for those who take holidays regularly.
"Significant savings could also be made by pre-booking airport car parking," he explained.
Research carried out by VisitBritain earlier this month found that people would rather cut back on everyday luxuries - such as nights out, trips to the cinema and new clothes - than sacrifice their holidays aboard.
