America's president-elect Barak Obama could be planning a trip to
Tenerife, it has been revealed.
Speaking last week, the president of
Tenerife Cabildo, Ricardo Melchior, insisted that Obama is planning to visit the island next year.
"In three months, six months or a year, he will come to the island", Mr Melchoir said.
According to News in the Sun, Obama was invited to the island around three months ago, although he has yet to confirm anything.
Mr Melchoir suggested that the
Canary Islands could play an important role in helping to alleviate poverty in Africa.
If president Obama does visit
Tenerife, then he may wish to take in some of the island's famous sights, which include the Lago Martianez and Mount Teide.
Rising 2,000 metres above sea level, Mount Teide is Spain's highest peak and offers spectacular views of
Tenerife and the surrounding islands of
La Palma,
La Gomera and
El Hierro.
