This year's may have just ended but planning is already underway for next year's Santa Cruz Carnival.
The theme of the 2010 carnival will be History of Humanity and authorities are expecting hundreds of thousands of people to attend,
Tenerife News reports.
"Organisers announced that 90 per cent of next year's programme has already been put in place. They said this was vital because of the complexity of the carnival," the news provider said.
As well as having a traditional carnival queen, next year's event will see the election of a carnival king for the first time.
It is thought that like the queens, the kings will be judged on "beauty and humour".
The carnival's annual poster competition will also be launched next month.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the island's capital and is home to attractions such as Garcia Sanabria Municipal Park and the Museo Militar.
