People with a passion for nature and conservation may welcome news that a rescued turtle has been released back into the wild in Tenerife.
The animal was taken into care at Loro Parque aquarium in
Puerto de la Cruz after being found in a poor state of health.
After a number of weeks, during which it regained weight and became healthy again, the creature was deemed to be ready for a return to its natural habitat, the
Tenerife News reports.
The publication notes that the turtle's release was quite an event on Playa Jardin beach in Punta Brava, attracting an "eager" crowd of spectators.
"While this young turtle was regaining her weight and strength in the Loro Parque aquarium, she became part of the diverse [range of] activities which the Loro Parque Foundation is developing," the regional news resource explains.
The foundation aims to raise awareness of environmental problems that marine flora and fauna can face through educational activities. Loro Parque aquarium is open every day of the year between 08:30 and 18:45 local time.
