The Santiago del Teide community is carrying out centenary celebrations marking the last eruption of the Chinyero peak on
Tenerife.
Travellers in Tenerife for their 5 star holidays may be interested to hear that a series of events has been organised to mark 100 years since the volcano was last active, which was between November 18th and 28th 1909, reports Island Connections.
According to the website, there is a guided tour today, which will culminate in the Casa del Patio being inaugurated as a visitors centre called Volcan Chinyero.
It explained that the event was planned to "preserve the memory of an event which 100 years ago marked the history of not only the district of Santiago del Teide, but of the whole of Tenerife".
On November 15th, a 7-km pilgrimage was recreated to commemorate the one that was carried out when the volcano erupted.
Chinyero forms part of the third-largest volcano in the world, Mount Teide, the peak of which is the highest point in Spain.
