The opening of a large number luxury hotels and resorts in Tenerife has led to the island becoming increasingly upmarket, according to a representative from its tourist board.
Arantxa Martin, from the
Tenerife Tourism Corporation, says that the island has changed a lot in the last ten years, with an influx of high-end beach areas and golf resorts.
She adds that Tenerife has more five-star hotels than Barcelona, the current number stands at 15.
In addition to this, a recent survey from the
Canary Islands Tourist Board has revealed that 41 per cent of Britons have been on repeated trips to the Canaries, suggesting that once tourists visit the islands they want to return.
Ms Martin says that any type of holiday can be enjoyed in Tenerife, with the island boasting nine golf courses, stargazing opportunities in the National Park of del Teide and diving activities.
According to the Canary Islands Tourist Board, over three million British tourists visited the Canary islands last year.
