The island of
Tenerife is set to "regain its status as the crown jewel of the European tourist market", it has been claimed.
According to the
Tenerife News, tourism authorities on the island are working to boost visitor numbers by investing in new attractions and revamping old hotels and shop fronts.
"The 70s style blocks will be completely rebuilt and the tired hotels will be completely refreshed. The tourism bureau of
Tenerife hopes that this will bring money into the economy, spurring even more tourist attractions," the newspaper said.
One of the proposed plans is the construction of a new theme park, which will no doubt appeal to the many families which holiday in
Tenerife each year.
In addition, plans are in place to create a new light rail network, connecting the island's capital in the north with the popular tourist resorts in the south.
Tenerife's newest attraction, Siam Park opened last year and is set to bring thousands of additional visitors to the island.
