Those taking holidays to overseas destinations such as
Lanzarote and
Tenerife this year should not treat travel insurance as an afterthought.
Speaking this week, Andy Leadbetter, managing director for insurance at Moneysupermarket.com, said whether people are taking a relaxing beach break or an activity holiday, travel cover is a must.
"Foregoing cover for trips could be a very costly false economy - especially when cover is available at affordable rates from a host of providers," he commented.
A recent survey by The Travel Association found that one in five Brits are hoping to find a last-minute holiday deal this year.
Mr Leadbetter said holidaymakers should remember that not only does insurance provide cover in the event of a medical emergency, it also protects against delays, cancellations and lost luggage, as well as public liability and legal fees.
