People who are keen to soak up some last-minute sun before the cooler months arrive in the UK and are planning a trip to
Tenerife to catch a few rays are not alone, according to new figures.
Research by ABTA indicates that 1.9 million people will leave the UK over the course of the August bank holiday weekend, having opted for late deals in a bid to enjoy some warm weather.
John McEwan, chairman of the organisation, said that many people view the long weekend as their last chance to enjoy a foreign holiday with some guaranteed sunshine.
"This is more true this year than ever. Obviously people have been holding onto their money until they are sure they have enough to go away with and as a result we have seen a surge in late bookings," he added.
Speaking on behalf of Skyscanner earlier this month, water sports expert Gareth Bayley said that Tenerife is a top destination for people keen to try their hand at windsurfing and kitesurfing.
