
One of the world's most famous tall ships stopped off in
Tenerife over the weekend, attracting hundreds of spectators.
The Juan Sebastian Elcano is currently operated by the Spanish Navy and is currently on the first leg of its journey across the Atlantic, News Canarias reports.
"During the weekend around 800 schoolchildren visited the magnificent ship, which departs for Brazil today, the newspaper said.
The steel-hulled schooner was constructed 80 years ago and has called at
Tenerife more than 50 times over the course of its lifetime.
Those interested in learning about the island's rich maritime history can visit one of
Tenerife's many museums.
Some of the island's most popular historical attractions include the Natural and Human History Museum and the La Recova Arts Centre.
