A Walking Holiday in Vilaflor - Tenerife
With plenty of viewing points - miradors - Vilaflor is ideally located for those who wish to take advantage of the valleys and forests and walk one, or many, of the organised trails. Ranging from 2 hours to 5 hours in length, here are just 3 of the walks you can take whilst you are on your holidays in Vilaflor.

Camino del Pilón :
2 Hour Trail [Length 3,200m and of low difficulty] - A crevice running through pine trees, terraces and various villages.

During the walk, you will have the opportunity to see typical farmhouses and traditional farmland interspersed with pine forests. The path runs along a track southwards, in a slight decline. You will begin the walk at 1,400m at El Pilón, and will finish at 1,100m. After passing a private property, the trail continues through a small plain surrounded by pine trees and covered with stone slabs [this is approximately 1km after the start].

The path then diverts in a westerly direction, parallel to a long stone wall that holds a pipe. Later, the path goes back into the pine forests. When you reach a water tank, turn right and the track crosses crops and reaches a traditional house. The track then continues south in the direct of a city water tank where the trail ends. The trail you walk is 70% land and 30% stones.

Forest Track - Madre del Agua to Las Martelas :
3 Hour Trail [Length 3,300m and of medium difficulty ] - This is along the gentle slopes of the volcanoes.

The trail is around the slopes of the volcanoes of the Colorada Mountain, with its distinctive red slopes. Scattered among the pine forests are fields of almond treest which are used in the making of the traditional cakes and sweets of the area. This is a beautiful agricultural and Canarian landscape. You will start in Madre del Agua which is just north of Los Llanitos at 1,700m, and will finish in Las Martelas at 1,200m.

The road runs south through the pine grove to the Vilaflor village of Martela, bordering the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. When reaching a sign for the Corona Park Forest, the trail will run through the Colorada Mountain. You will need to follow the trail to the south after reaching a stone wall, even through the trail also heads to the west. You will know you are heading south if you reach a cultural area with walls, and also a large Canarian house. The road comes to a track after firstly crossing pineapple fiels and finally reaches Martel. The trail you walk is 70% land and 30% stones.

Las Lajas to the San Roque Viewing Point [Mirador] :
4 Hour Trail [Length 6,000m and of low difficulty] - A treasure amongst the pines.

The road runs along the natural pine forests of Vilaflor and leads to the secluded San Roque viewing point [or mirador]. You will start in Las Lajas at a height of 2,410m and will end at San Roque at a height of 1,450m. Besides offering panoramic views, the trek will enable you to see one of the best preserved natural pine forests of the Canary islands.

The road, which runs in a south-easterly direction, is well marked and then continues heading east. When you complete the trek, you will come across an area which is used for growing potatoes and contains jable. Jable is small pieces of lava which are known for their moisture retention values and also prevent weeds from taking hold. If you continue along this trail you will complete your trek in the area of Villalba. This trail will involve you walking over 90% normal land and just 10% made of stones.
