The most southerly point of Gibraltar is called Europa Point [also the most southerly point of Mainland Europe] where you will find a viewing platform giving you the opportunity to watch sea birds, dolphins, shipping and the distant mountains of Morocco in Africa.
On the low cliffs is the Gibraltar Lighthouse dating from 1841. The Gibraltar Lighthouse stands 49m [162ft] high and acts as the navigational point for ships passing through the Straits.
In contrast to the Gibraltar Lighthouse is the cricket pitch which can be found just northwards and the minaret of the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque which was a gift from King Fahd of Saudi Arabia.
Nearby, you will come across the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe which is a chapel built on the site of a Moorish mosque. On Europe Day [5 May] a pilgrimage is made to the shrine.
