Gibraltar Cable Car
For most people on their Gibraltar holidays, a trip to the top of the Rock by cable car is at the top of their list of what do do in Gibraltar.

The original cable car opened in 1966 but underwent a complete refurbishment in 1986 when the current cars were purchased.

The Gibraltar cable car leaves from the Lower Station is Rosia Road which is close to the Botanical Gardens and the Bristol Hotel [with a convenient car park nearby].

The cable car runs daily from 09:30 and the time of the last car down depends on the season, but is usually around 17:45. It will carry 30 passengers to the top in approximately 8 minutes with an additional 2 minutes added on when it stops at the Middle Station.

A variety of tickets are available and some include entry to attractions or a meal in the Upper Station restaurant. The ticket includes a multi-media presentation in a variety of languages which is obtainable at the Upper Station. Please note that the Gibraltar cable car may not run in bad weather conditions, particularly when it is windy.

As the cable car rises to the top, superb views are revealed of the town and incude the modern area built on land reclaimed from the sea.

Off to the west is the Bay of Gibraltar which is usually full of oil tankers waiting to berth at the nearby oil refinery.

On the far side of the bay is the Spanish town of Algeciras and to the south you may catch a glimpse of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and the towns of Ceuta and Tangier can be picked out - all on a clear day.

The Gibraltar cable car will make a stop at the Middle Station which will give you access to the Apes' Den and St Michael's Caves and then proceeds to the Upper Station.

When you arrive at the Upper Station you will be able to use the following facilities:
Souvenir shop
Self-service cafeteria
Bar
Toilet facilities and baby-changing facilities
Viewing terraces
Access to the Nature Reserve
