Main Street is one of the most popular locations in Gibraltar for day visitors and stretches from Southport Gate in the south to Casemates Square in the north.
Today, it is mostly pedestrianised and is usually busy with people visiting shops like Marks and Spencer, American fast-food establishments, Indian bazaars, jewellers and duty-free shops.
You will also find some typical English pubs here and a variety of restaurants.
If you are looking for more than shopping in Gribraltar, then Main Street has plenty of other interests. Apart from the shops you will find:
The Convent : now the Governor's residence located in the upper end of Main Street.
Watch the changing of the guard: Take time out and have a drink at the Angry Friar pub located opposite the Covent - an ideal location to watch this event.
John Mackintosh Hall : A venue for concerts and exhibitions.
The Law Courts : At the front you will find a wonderful garden.
Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned : A Roman Catholic cathedral which has been built on the site of a Moorish mosque.
Irish Town : Located just to the west of Main Steet.
You will also be able to find several banks and currency exchange facilities in Main Street as well as the Post Office.
