LAGOA TRAVEL GUIDE
The Algarve, Portugal

If you are looking for a holiday hotel, apartment or villa in Lagoa, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.

Lagoa is the Algarve’s main wine-producing town, and the local co-operative, on the Portimao road, offers guided tours and wine tastings. As well as making both light and full-bodied red wines, the co-operative also produced aguardente, a sugar-cane spirit, taken as an aperitif. Another local product worth looking out for is morgadinhos - almond-paste sweets in the shape of animals and flowers.

Though no longer the big event it once was, Holy Week is still marked in Lagoa with processions and prayers. The parish church has an 18th century altar noted for its statue of Nossa Senhora da Luz [Our lady of Light]. Two blocks north, the São José Monastery has a pretty cloister whose garden contains a menhir perhaps dating back to 4000 BC.
