Alicante, the principal city of the Costa Blanca, is a port and seaside resort built around a natural harbour. During the 8th century, like most of Southern Spain, Alicante was invaded by the Moors and for almost 500 years was an Arab city. This was until 1246 when Alfonso X regained the city for the Castilian Crown. Jaime III incorporated Alicante into the kingdom of Valencia and is today the second largest city in Valencia and is the fourth wealthiest province in Spain.
This stylish city has much to offer both residents and its visitors. Its prosperity is based on traditional and modern industry, agriculture and tourism. The year-round mildness of the climate, sandy beaches and quality hotels are added attractions, which lure many visitors.
