BENIDORM TRAVEL GUIDE
Costa Blanca, SpainIf you are looking for a holiday hotel or apartment in Benidorm, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.
Benidorm is the largest tourist resort of the Mediterranean. Hugely popular with the British market and holidaymakers of all ages, Benidorm provides ‘something for everyone’ throughout the winter and summer months.
The Moors first settled in Benidorm and developed it as a small fishing village. By the 1600s, the threat of regular attacks from North African pirates diminished and the town became a settlement with a parish church being built.
Up until the 1950s the first tourists were Spanish, who came in increasing, but still minimal numbers. Benidorm grew at a spectacular rate throughout the 1960s with higher incomes coinciding with cheaper airfares. The Spanish learned what the foreign holidaymaker expected and many hotels, apartment buildings, shops, restaurants and recreational facilities were built to house the increasing demand.
Benidorm is set alongside a 2 km long curve of golden sand known as Playa Levante. Packed during the summer, it’s a wonderful place to make friends from all over the world. At night it’s transformed into a sparkling chain of lights, the perfect backdrop for the resort’s vibrant night scene. Despite a huge number of vistors during the summer, Benidorm’s beaches and waters are among the worlds cleanest.
Today, Benidorm offers masses of English-style pubs, Vegas-style shows and a huge variety of cheap restaurants. Benidorm will either provide everything you need or make a good base in which to explore the more traditional Spain only a few kilometres inland.
