JAVEA TRAVEL GUIDE
Costa Blanca, SpainIf you are looking for a holiday hotel or apartment in Javea, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.
Javea is believed to be the sunniest resort on the coast of Costa Blanca, today being mainly known as a family friendly resort. Javea lies in the shadow of Montgó Mountain and has cliffs, inlets, caves, and two rocky islands along its attractive coastline, which pirates and smugglers once used as perfect hiding places. Javea has a respected history way before the resort spread down the hills towards the beautiful golden beaches.
Javea is made up of three areas, Javea Pueblo (the old town), Playa de Arenal (the main beach) and Javea Puerto (the port area). Due to the property development in the town the old town and port are practically joined whilst the main beach is approximately 3 kilometres along the coast from the port.
The town centre sits on a hill, a short way inland, on the site of an Iberian walled settlement. Why not take a relaxing stroll around the old town; the tourist information centre located on the Plaza de la Iglesia (Church Square) offers great leaflets on suggested walking tours of the town enabling you to take in the wonderful whitewashed buildings with Gothic features, busy food market and friendly cafés. The Gothic 6th century Iglesia de San Bartolomé was fortified to serve the congregation as a place of refuge in times of invasion, it even has openings over the main entrance where missiles could be dropped on to the enemy.
Just along the street is the local Museo Arqueológico, Histórico y Etnográfrco (archaeological, historical and ethnographic museum), housed in a Gothic palace; it details Javea’s history from the Iberian and Roman times to Christian kingdoms and gives pride of place to copies of exquisite Iberian golf jewellery found near by.
