Moraira is still essentially Spanish town, located approximately 30 minutes from
Benidorm and a short distance from
Javea. Moraira is not only a popular holiday resort; it is also very popular with resident expatriates. Originally a small fishing village, Moraira lies off the main coastal road, undisturbed by huge crowds that flock to other resorts along the Costa Blanca and has stunning views of Penon de Ifach in nearby
Calpe. Moraira does not have many hotel options, however does have a variety of apartment blocks and privately owned villas.
Moraira has an excellent selection of stylish cafés within its pleasant streets and is blessed with a variety of superb restaurants offering typical Spanish cuisine rather than international eateries that can be found in neighbouring resorts. The main fish restaurants are located on the front, overlooking the small port and La Lonja fish market. For shopaholics, Moraira's weekly market takes place on Fridays and there's another one every Wednesday in nearby Teulada, the old town of Moraira, where you can see sites such as Santa Catalina Church and the Divina Pastora Chapel amongst others.
Playa de l'Ampolla is Moraira's only beach within comfortable walking distance of the centre, approximately 500m from the fish market. Another option is Playa del Portet approximately 1.5km north of the centre. If you love beaches, why not take a short drive to nearby
Javea or
Denia where you will find one of Spain’s most exquisite golden sands and turquoise waters. The beaches immediately south of Moraira are rocky rather than sandy but are ideal snorkelling.
