The working port of Blanes has one of the longest beaches on the Costa Brava, but the highlight of the town is the Jardi Botanic Mar i Murta. These fine gardens, designed by the German Karl Faust in 1928, are spectacularly sited above the cliffs and you will find 7,000 species of Mediterranean and tropical plants.

The city centre is only a few strides from the beach and you will see the remins of Sant Joan [St John] castle, the ruins of the Gothic Palace of the Counts of Cabrera, and the fountain on the Carrer Ample.

There are some large stores and plenty of smaller boutiques. Entertainment during the day is mainly centred around the beach and there is a popular sailing club and fishing port at the north end of the resort. In the evening there is a variety of restaurants mainly serving local cuisine and mainly located in the old town.

Blanes is 26 mils southeast of Gerona airport and 40 miles north of Barcelona airport.
