Costa Brava Holidays, Catalonia, SpainCalella is still a fishing port and its gloriously rocky coastline is punctuated by several tiny sandy beaches which are normally packed with people, bu the water is inviting and the village's whitewashed villas and narrow streets are very attractive. If you want to do more than lounge about, a 45 minute walk south leads to the Castell i Jardens de Cap Roig - a clifftop botanical gardens which took 50 years to lay out.Carrer de I'Esglesia, the main pedestrianised shopping street, is crowded with boutiques, jewellers, shoe shops and souvenir outlets. The commercial centre is open every day and offers a wide range of similar goods. Entertainment during the day is based along the sa front and during the main summer months there are some popular festivals at night for adults. Nighlife can be lively with a high concentration of bars, restaurants and discos mainly located at the southwest end of the resort. Restaurants nearly all cater for tourists, but with some traditional choices in the older part of the town.Calella is 31 miles south of Gerona airport and 35 miles northeast of Barcelona.
