TOSSA DE MAR
Costa Brava Holidays, Catalonia, SpainThis resort is one of Costa Brava's highlights - with medieval walls and turrets on the hill above the modern town. There are plenty of day-trippers to Tossa de Mar and is linked to Lloret by half-hourly buses.Founded originally by the Romans, there are 12th century walls surrounding the old quarter, the Vila Vella, which is all cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and flower boxes, offering terrific views over the beach and bay. Within this old quarter you will find the Museu de la Vila Vella which features some Chagall paintings, a Roman mosaic and remnants from a neary excavated Roman villa. The best beach is the Mar Menuda, around the headland away from the old town. The main central beach, although pleasant and clean, tends to get crowded. Most of the retaurants feature a daily menu of varying quality while there are endless "Full English Breakfast" bargains on offer. The main concentration of restaurants is on the seafront opposite the main beach with a range from pizzas to some locally-caught seafood. Also a line of restaurants is along the old town wall - although a little more expensive.Tossa de Mar is 35 miles north of Barcelona airport and 30 miles south of Gerona airport.
