With an average of 320 cloud-free days each year, a holiday on the Costa del Sol guarantees an enjoyable time even during the winter months when temperatures average 16°C [60°F]. Meanwhile in summer, sea breezes cool the afternoon highs of 30°C [86°F].

When you plan your holiday in the Costa del Sol, you will probably think of the large coastal resorts of Nerja, Torremolinos, Fuengirola or Marbella. However, don't forget that you can take a short break in the busy city of Malaga, or even stay in a quieter region of Costa del Sol, such as Estepona, Frigiliana or Rincon de la Victoria - to name just a few.

Of course, a Costa del Sol holiday is not just for adults and this is an ideal holiday location for families with children as it is one long beach. Apart from paddling and building sand castles, older children can learn how to sail, water-ski or windsurf. Eating Out on the Costa del Sol:
You could easily spend your entire holiday on the Costa del Sol without ever sitting down to a Spanish meal. You can enjoy hamburgers, pizzas, pub grub, beach barbecues and restuarants of a huge number of different nationalities. However, if Spanish cuisine is what you are looking for there then head for one of the many tapas bars in the region or, indeed, one of the many traditional Spanish restaurants.

One of the region's best-loved starters is chilled soup gazpacho andaluz which is made from tomato, garlic, sweet peppers and cucumber. Other favourites include jamos serrano and Spanish Manchego cheese. When ordering your main dish, fish will be the main ingredient on the menu. Don't miss the barbecued sardines during the summer months which are often cooked on an open fire on the beach and normally served with lots of salt and lemon. The daily catch in most of the coastal resorts includes tuna [atun], monkfish [rape], red mullet [salmonete], swordfish [pez espada] and sole [lenguado] which are served either pan fried or grilled. Also worth trying are prawns in oil, garlic and chilli [gambas al pil-pil] and of course paella.

For dessert, you can order flan [tocina de ciel], cream custard [natillas], sweets based on egg yolks and sugar [yemas de tajo] , cream-filled pastries [brazos de gitano] and liqueur-soaked cake [piononos]. Or, if this is all too much, just try a simple piece of delicious fruit.
