ESTEPONA TRAVEL GUIDE
Costa del Sol, Spain:

If you are looking for a holiday hotel or apartment in Estepona, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.

Estepona is a charming town 16 miles west of Marbella, and is quietly becoming one of the most fashionable places on the western Costas. The humble, low-rise town spreads along a large stretch of fine clean sand.

Although there has been an abundance of tourists to Estepona, it is one of the few coastal towns that has managed to maintain its pueblo charm and character, with its white washed buildings and geranium-filled balconies, along with narrow streets as a reminder of the Moorish era that ended 500 years ago.

Estepona's economic foundation once revolved around fishing and citrus growing and supports a large fishing fleet. In the port, coloured fishing boats line the luxury yachts. Every morning there is a vigorous fish auction that takes place, also the covered market on Calle Castillo is well worth a visit for their wide range of fresh fruit, vegetables and of course, fish.

Estepona handles a 23km stretch of coastline, and waves a Blue Flag [the EU’s quality stamp] on several of its beaches proudly. The most popular beach is the sandy Playa de la Rada. This expansive beach is backed by a modern sea front promenade for the entire length. Along the promenade, it is filled with chiringuitos [beach bars], and restaurants serving the traditional fare such as paella or a choice of international dishes. Another popular beach along the coastline of Estepona is the Playa del Cristo, located just outside the town, near the marina, and is a delightful oyster-shaped cove ideal for children.

There are a number of beautifully landscaped public places to visit in Estepona. One of which is the Plaza de las Flores, situated in the old town. It is an attractive square where you can sit on one of the many benches and cafes and watch the world go by. A public park to visit is the Los Pedregales Park, located 5km inland from the town. Log cabins can be rented and is an ideal place to explore and discover the beautiful countryside above Estepona.
