MARBELLA TRAVEL GUIDE
Costa del Sol, Spain

If you are looking for a holiday hotel or apartment in Marbella, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.

Marbella is a privileged strip of coast, protected by the mountains of the Sierra Blanca and is the play ground of the rich and famous. Marbella shows off many varieties of luxury hotels, visited by celebrities, politicians and royalty. It also shows off advanced standards of accommodation and service as well as a excellent range of leisure amenities and some of the most sophisticated shopping in Spain.

The city of Marbella handles some 28 km [17 miles] of beachfront and is lined with exclusive holiday complexes such as Los Monteros and the resorts original development, the Marbella Club. This hotel set Marbella as a stylish gathering place for the jet set in the 1960s. The town still draws a high-class group, and every summer the population quadruples by the large quantity of visitors.

By the water, a promenade stretches past the beaches of El Fuerte and Fontanilla, and a marina [Puerto Deportivo], which can hold several hundred pleasure boats, in which the tall spire of the lighthouse over looks it. There are a few lively bars and restaurants, which make this a well-liked part of town. The Marbella coastline has many beaches on which you can relax beneath a parasol; however, most Marbella visitors seize the opportunity to take up the energetic water sports.

The centre of Marbella is filled with smart boutiques, sidewalk cafes and banks. A four-lane bypass has been built here, to relieve the crush of traffic that would jam the main avenue.

The Old Town in Marbella, just north of the main road, has been carefully preserved. It is an appealing area of tiny squares and white washed houses covered in bougainvillea, huddled around the picturesque Plaza de los Naranjos, named after its orange trees. When exploring the shops in the Old Town, the majority of which are unquestionably upmarket, stopping in the Plaza de los Naranjos is a must for its freshly squeezed orange juice and Italian ice cream. The old town offers many crafts and souvenirs for everyone and the Marbella Street Market on a Monday is a must!
