TORROX COSTA TRAVEL GUIDE
Costa del Sol, SpainIf you are looking for a holiday hotel, or apartment in Torrox Costa, the following information may help by giving you an overview on the resort.
The coastal area of Torrox stretches for 3km and right in the heart of it is Paseo Maritimo and is 4km away from the inland village of Torrox. In contrast to the village of Torrox, Torrox Costa has a much more commercial, modern feel and taking advantage of the 9km long of sandy beaches and promenade full of bars and restaurants. Although it is livelier than the Torrox Pueblo, Torrox Costa is not as hectic as other developments on the Costa del Sol such as
Marbella,
Fuengirola or
Estepona.
Torrox Pueblo has retained its Andalucian way of life, with its Moorish village structure, narrow streets and a main square, which is a hearty and central meeting place. Most of the town has beautiful views down to the coast.
Along the coast of Axarquia, Torrox Costa is one of two towns along here that has high-rise apartment blocks along its central coastal stretch. This is compensated for by two impressive maritime promenades. Either side of the main area are more rural, low-rise buildings and bamboo fringed beachfronts. On the west of Torrox Costa, is a small, well-preserved seaside village. To the east of the main town, beside the lighthouse is the new Balcon de Torrox, which has been built as a look out to the sea and has see-through flooring, looking down at the on Roman remains.
During the Roman era, Torrox constituted an important factory town and Pheonician remains on the coast bear witness to the long history of settlement in the area. A wide range of ruins have been conserved on the coast beside the lighthouse including a Necropolis, a restored thermal baths, houses, and the luxury villa Clavicum built in the 1st century.
