Jandia is the peninsula at the southern end of Fuerteventura. It includes the resort of Playas de Jandia, as well as the port of Morro Jable and several smaller resorts. The highest point on Fuerteventura, Pico de Zarza, is to be found there, and once upon a time Jandia was separated from the rest of Fuerteventura by the sea. The deposits of sand that linked the two have resulted in some of the best beaches in the world.
The main attraction. Miles of soft, light sands, rising to wind-blown dunes in places and sloping down to clean, clear waters; it ends at the volcanic-rock headland of Morro Jable, with numerous rock pools on the approach. Dotted with sunbeds and parasols, and backed by a busy promenade for a portion of its length. Much favoured by naturists as well as families; the calm waters are ideal for young swimmers. The fresh Atlantic breeze can be bracing at times.
Among the usual tourist shops that line the beach front it is possible to find tax-free bargains, such as perfumes, watches and electronics (but watch out for Panashibas and Tecnix). One fairly large and expanding shopping centre at the west end of the main road, with a newer development at the east end of town.
A good choice of restaurants and fast-food joints. A more traditional selection can be found in Morro Jable.
