On an otherwise busy south coast, Arguineguin has for years been ignored by visitors - maybe due to the presence of a large cement factory on its outskirts. Now, hotels and apartments are being built for those who like the atmosphere of a lively little Canarian town. It has a good beach and, with an active fishing community, is famous for fish restaurants.
North of the town, the Barranco de Arguineguin, a fertile gorge planted with papayas, passion fruit and avocados, rises from a flat valley floor towards the heights of the central mountains at Ayacata.
Arguineguin has two small beaches either side of the village, but larger beaches can be found in
Puerto Rico [Amadores Beach] and
Patalavaca.
