It is probably fair to say that Playa Blanca holidays are most popular with the more independent visitors who want to explore or marvel at the beautiful coastal and volcanic landscapes. There are lots of opportunties for walking in Playa Blanca. For example, follow the promenade westwards and then take the paths that lead to the lighthouse - Faro de Pechiguera. There are 2 lighthouses here, a low older structure and a tall new one which was built on the prompting of Cesar Manrique who had plans to build many around the island of Lanzarote, but these plan never came to fruition and this lighthouse is the only one which was built. If you walk towards the east along the promenade you will come to the Castillo de las Coloradas. It is thought that this castle was built on the site of another castle of the 15th century. Lanzarote Weather and Temperature Chart :
Average daily hours of sunshine | Average day and evening temperature °C | Average monthly rainfall [mm] Playa Blanca Beaches: Beach-wise, you can take your pick from the gentle waters at either beaches at Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo, or the sandy bays nearby. For lovers of a sun-and-sand holiday, head slightly out of Playa Blanca to several larger beaches nearby - especially Papagayo to the east.
Playa Blanca: The name of the town literally means “white beach” so you may be surprised to find that the sands on this beach are golden in colour. This beach is particularly safe for swimmers and the beach itself is backed by a promenade and has been awarded an EU Blue Flag for cleanliness. This beach is small and probably inadequate for the number of people of their Playa Blanca holidays. Playa Dorada: This is Playa Blanca’s second beach and also an EU Blue Flag winner. It is an attractive gently shelving curve of golden sand and is a wonderful sun-trap. Umbrellas and sunloungers are available for hire and the beach is backed by bars and restaurants. Playa Flamingo: This bay has fine sand and is safe for swimmers. You will find that the promenade links Playa Flamingo with the harbour and a sub-tropical garden lies to the back. Playa Papagayo: You will be able to reach this beach along a bumpy track, or you may prefer to take the boat from the harbour. You will rewarded with a wide stretch of sandy beach [actually a series of six beaches] which is considered to be one of the best in the Canary Islands, and today still remains relatively unspoiled despite the large number of visitors to the beach. You will find a few more sandy bays either side of Papagayo and includes Playa de Puerto Muelas which is a favourite for nude sunbathing. Although Papagayo is a very popular stretch of beach, don’t expect to find lots of bars and restaurants - there is just a simple beach bar, but no other facilities. Playa Blanca Holidays - Eating Out and Evening Entertainment: On your holidays to Playa Blanca, you will find an enticing selection of seafront restaurants and outdoor cafes serving freshly caught fish as well as the pretty harbour area of Marina Rubicon. You will find that the Playa Blanca promenade is the heart of evening activity, and is where you will be able to find lot of the restaurants and bars. The hotels in Playa Blanca have comfortable bars and sometimes have live music and even stage shows. Playa Blanca Holidays - What to do in Playa Blanca: Boat trips in Playa Blanca : You will find leisure cruises from Playa Blanca leave several time each day to Papagayo beach along with catamaran excursions, a pirate cruise which is great for the children and the schooner Marea Errota as well as deep-sea fishing. Castillo de las Coloradas : Just to the east of Playa Blanca you will find the Castillo de las Coloradas which projects from the Punta del Aguila headland. This watchtower dates back to 1769 as a lookout to help protect Lanzarote from pirates and was reconstructed in 1778 and offers wonderful views over to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Open: AlwaysEntrance if Free Marina Rubicon : This was opened in 2003 and is located on the Papagayo side of Play Blanca and has quickly become among the Canary Islands’ most prestigious moorings. You will find lots of yachts, traditional architecture, shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants in the vicinity. Old Port [also known as el Varadero] : Watch as fishermen bring in their catch of the day and then sample the seafood in the nearby restaurant that overlook the harbour. The Promendade in Playa blanca : The beachside promenade in Playa Blanca extends along the whole length from the Old Port to the Marina Rubicon.
