Lying just beyond the eastern end of Lanzarote's main resort Puerto del Carmen Playa de los Pocillos is the quieter resort which has a relaxed easy-going atmosphere - ideal for a relaxing Lanzarote holiday. Its centre-piece is the huge, sandy sweep of Pocillos bay and is one of the best beaches on Lanzarote, and is host to an abundance of watersports. At high tide, it is largely covered with water which leaves it damp for a while when the tide pulls back - hence is name [pronounced "pothiyoss" which means "puddle beach". However, the sands quickly dry in the warm breeze making it a haven for windsurfers as well as sunbathers.

There are three main commercial centres in Playa de Los Pocillos - Los Pocillos itself, Costa Mar and Jameos Playa. It's a purpose built Lanzarote resort, with all amenities close to hand including shops, a good beach and a scattering of bars/restaurants. Playa de los Pocillos is only 10 miles to the south of Arrecife and 5 miles from the airport. It's a popular, quieter resort base with the Brits, and a friendly home from home with some good holiday bargains available here on accommodation. You might get a little airport noise, but it's certainly not oppressive.

The majority of hotels and apartments in Playa de los Pocillos are of a good standard and excellent value for money. The area is popular with families with young children and visitors who are seeking a peaceful alternative to the more hectic Puerto del Carmen, while still being within walking distance of all its amenities.

Plenty of UK brands and familiar shops are here, including Spar supermarkets. Los Pocillos is relatively new and it feels it - this is a pretty modern Lanzarote tourist resort. It's still developing with some building work is still in progress, but the building work is relatively low key so shouldn't be a problem.

A promenade connects Playa de los Pocillos with both Matagorda, its sister small resort, and bigger Puerto del Carmen just 3km to the south of Playa de los Pocillos. Quiet and relaxing, a Playa de Los Pocillos holiday is a good Lanzarote resort choice if you're looking for a quiet base, yet again with easy access to all the excursions, tours and beaches of Puerto del Carmen.
