This road is the main centre of activity in the resort, and restaurants, hotels, shops and fast food centres line this promenade. Puerto del Carmen holidays are popular with British - the blue flag nice beaches are a big attraction, and English is widely spoken here - a home from home, with guaranteed sunshine, ample facilities and many bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Where the main beach of Playa Grande ends, the promenade continues to a rockier shore, a smaller beach and more beautiful sea views. Shopping in Puerto del Carmen: The main shops along the Avenida de las Playas sell a variety of craft goods, souvenirs, beachwear, sports goods, perfumes and fashions. There are similar boutiques in the old town and some are worht looking at for attractive, unusual summer clothes. Several shops, known as bazares, claim to be selling top-brand electrical and photographic goods at cut prices. These should be treated with caution by the inexperienced, although it is sometimes possible to pick up a genuine bargain. One one side of Avenida de las Playas is a range of open-fronted eateries, bars and shops and on the other side is a delightful flower-decked promenade alongside landscaped gardens and a vast beach of golden sand. Beaches in Puerto del Carmen: Playa Grande This is a spacious, safe and sandy beach in the centre of Puerto del Carmen and has an EU Blue Flag for cleanliness and water quality. You will find sunloungers and umbrellas for hire. Playa Grande or Blanca as it's sometimes known is the favourite beach in this Puerto del Carmen, and has pedalo rides, paragliding and banana boat rides all available and safe swimming for families. Puerto del Carmen holidays are a good choice for both families and couples, as well as those looking for a little nightlife. There are loads of things to do local attraction wise. Puerto del Carmen Holidays - What to do in Puerto del Carmen: Diving The comibination of Lanzarote's warm, clear waters, varied marine life and a number of wrecks sunk nearby make diving a very attractive activitgy when on your Puerto del Carmen holidays. Among the dive centres that arrange diving excursions and offer training courses are Atlantica Diving Centre and Techno Diving. Game Fishing Lanzarote is known for its rich fishing and Puerto del Carmen is a good place for arranging to join a game fishing expedition to catch blue marlin tuna, swordfish or bonito. Go-Karting Close to Matagorda one the main road just past the Puerto del Carmen turn-off is Gran Karting Club Lanzarote which is an excellent track for visitors of all ages. The senior track allows speeds up to 80km/hr while the junior track [for aged 12-16] allows for driving at safe speeds. There are mini-karts for the over fives and children over 10 can also try their hand on mini-motorcycles. Open : 10:00-21:00 in winter and 10:00-22:00 in summer. Old Port - el Varadero Where the beach ends, Puerto del Carmen's waterfront becomes a tangled area of old lanes leading to a delightful little former fishing for which was the original Puerto del Carmen. There are still fishing boats in the harbour, as well as leisure craft and larger boats, and many walkers by the waterside. All this creates a bustling and enjoyable scene. A string of bars and restaurants, some climbing to terraces with wide views, runs alongside the port. Rancho Texas Park Rancho Texas is an activity and leisure centre based on horse riding, but with a lot of other entertainment on a Wild West theme including county-and-western nights with music and dancing and barbecues. Sights include an Indian village, Medicine Man Cave, Goldmire and a collection of American animals. There are shows with birds of prey and alligators several times a day. Among the horse riding options are a 3 hour trek for experienced riders and a 1 hour trek designed for beginners. There are 3 restaurants on site. Open : 09:30 - 17:30 Watersports There is equipment hire on the beach for windsurfing, jet-skis and other watersports. Basic tuition is also available. There's more of a bar feel to the nightlife in Lanzarote's top resort Puerto del Carmen - but there's plenty of live music and clubs on offer. Avenida de las Playas becomes Lanzarote's busiest entertainment district with the focal point being Centrol Atlantico which is located halfway along the avenue and has something for all tastes and budgets ranging from pubs and cocktail bars to cabaret venues, nightclubs and all-night dance clubs.
