Alcudia is located on the northwest coast of Mallorca, 34 miles northeast of
Palma and the airport by way of a good, mainly straight road. The original "Alcudia" lies 2 miles inland but the actual port and holiday resort of Alcudia where most of the hotels and apartment complexes can be found lies at the western end of the magnificent Bay of Alcudia which run for over 8km through
Playa de Muro and onto the resort of
Ca'n Picafort in the east.
Perhaps the one thing above all that makes Alcudia holidays so popular is the magnificent stretch of pale sand that extends almost unbroken for 9 miles. It is the longest and one of the finest on the island, with a tree-shaded pedestrian walkway running along much of its developed length. The warm shallow waters of Alcudia Bay make this resort very popular with families with young children, and the beach is without doubt a major attraction. Whichever beach you choose on your holidays to Alcudia, you will never be more than a few hundred metres from the nearest beach bar or cafe.
Shopping on your Alcudia holidays - The dispersed layout does not assist the shopper but the local centres all provide basic essentials, souvenirs, beach necessities and often more. Good boutiques and shops selling jewellery and handicrafts are thinly sprinkled among the resort streets.
Playa de Muro has an upmarket mall. A few supermarkets provide for self caterers. Alcudia market on Tuesday and Sunday mornings.
There are cafes and restaurants to suit most budgets, with the emphasis on casual dining and northern European cuisine. Fast food in most parts but there are also many good restaurants too, including waterfront eating in the port.
As far as entertainment on your holidays to Alcudia is concerned, during the day there is tennis, squash, multisports clubs, water sports, cycling, horse riding and wetland bird-watching; large water park; go-kart tracks. During the evening, the nightlife is mainly centred in the port area and near the central crossroads, where there are many bars and several nightclubs. Action is more thinly spread in the rest of the resort. Many hotels have their own shows.
