Santa Ponsa - sometimes known as Santa Ponca - is one of the key and growing resorts to the west of Mallorca and is popular for both hotel and self-catering holidays. Santa Ponsa beach is located at the bottom of the bay of the same name and has achieved a Blue Flat qualification signifying its quality.
Santa Ponsa holidays are popular with Irish, Scottish, German and Dutch tourists and is predominantly a summer resort with the season lasting from May to October. A family resort with a large assortment of bars, restaurants and evening entertainment.
There are good opportunities to play golf on your holidays to Santa Ponsa with two top courses nearby, but visitors are only allowed to use the Santa Ponsa I course which like Santa Ponsa II has hosted a PGA European Tour event.
The main sandy beach is separated from the pine woods by the promenade. The pine woods provide relief from the sun on extremely hot days and in the summer months are very popular with locals who come from Palma and surrounding areas on Sundays for a day by the beach. Sunbeds and parasols on the beach can be hired on a daily basis. A large safety area for swimming is normally roped off where it is forbidden to use pedaloes, windsurfers, boats and jet skis. A lifeguard is in permanent attendance on the main beach and instructions given by him must be adhered to. You can find rocky coves along the Costa de la Calma side of the bay by walking along the sea front. It is fairly rugged in places so is not recommended if you are pushing a pram or wheelchair.
There is also a small sandy cove [known locally as “Little Beach”] on the way to Santa Ponsa’s marina [Club Nautico Santa Ponsa]. There are few facilities and it is therefore loss “touristy” that the main beach. The Little Beach is safe for children as it is sheltered from the road by surrounding rocks, there is shade available from the pine trees and the water is quite shallow for a long way out.
