Cala Morell is 8km from
Cuidadela on an otherwise deserted northeast coast and is best known for its remarkable collection of prehistoric caves dating from the Bronze and early Iron Ages and used both as burial caves and as dwellings. They feature circular chambers with central pillars and windows, chimneys and raised sleeping area. Some have elaborately carved motifs on their facades. It is easy to get into most of the caves and if you want to find out more about the caves take a visit to the
Museu de Menorca in
Mahon, and the
Museu Municipal in
Ciudadela.
There is a small beach in Cala Morell reached by steps from the car parks at either end of the village, and there is good swimming and snorkelling from the rock platforms at the foot of the cliffs. The town above the beach is a collection of Ibiza-style whitewashed villas and is one of the most exclusive in Menorca.
