Central Park is a large, urban park which pulls in approximately 25 million visitors a year, and has been a National Historic Landmark since 1963.
The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and architect Calvert Vaux. Much of the park looks natural, however it is almost entirely landscaped. The park contains several natural-looking lakess and ponds, extensive walking tracks, two ice-skating rinks, Central Park Zoo, a wildlife sanctuary and a large area of natural wood. There is also a reservoir with an encircling running track and the outdoor Delacorte Theatre which host the "Shakespeare in the Park" summer festivals.
Central Park is one of the most visited parks in the United States, and its appearance on many films and television shows has made this park famous. During the weekends, when no cars are allowed into the park, it is a welcoming oasis away from the bustling city.
