Shopping in Scotland:Glasgow is widely considered to be the second best shopping area in the United Kingdom after London with Edinburgh in third palce. Designer brands are available in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Scotland is a national of artists and craftsmen and it is possible to pick up a bargain if you search around. Scottish cashmere knitwear is famous around the world as the finest you can buy and with names like Pringle and Hodgson producing cashmere, it is hardly surprising.
Scottish Whisky - alternatively known as Scotch - is the world's leading spirit, and Scotland is home to the largest number of Malt Whisky distilleries in the world. Malt Whisky is classified under four main categories - Highland, Lowland, Speyside and Islay and whisky is categorised in accordance with the region in which the distillery is located.
The Language of Scotland:The official language is English, although Gaelic is spoken mainly in the north and west of Scotland. The Scots language [which has similarities to English] is the language mainly of the Lowlands, with Gaelic the language of the Highlands and Islands.
