Scotland Holidays and Scotland Flights:

If you are planning a Scotland holiday we have provided below are very brief overview on the Scotland.

Scotland's landscape is breathtaking - lochs and mountains, and you will find ruins, castles all over Scotland. One of four constituent nations which form the United Kingdom [the other three being Endland, Wales and Northern Ireland], Scotland forms the nothern part of the island of Great Britain.

Golf is Scotland's national game and was pioneered around St.Andrews. The earliest records date back to 1457 when golf was banned by James II on the grounds that it was interfering with his subjects' archery practice!

Any time is a good time to visit Scotland, but of course it depends on what you want to do when you get there. The main season is April to September with the peak period being July and August - Edinburgh becomes very crowded during the festival in August. The east coast tends to be drier that the west and it also tends to be warmer in the summer, but colder in winter. The best weather is typically in May, June and September.

Shopping in Scotland:
Glasgow is widely considered to be the second best shopping area in the United Kingdom after London with Edinburgh in third palce. Designer brands are available in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Scotland is a national of artists and craftsmen and it is possible to pick up a bargain if you search around. Scottish cashmere knitwear is famous around the world as the finest you can buy and with names like Pringle and Hodgson producing cashmere, it is hardly surprising.

Scottish Whisky - alternatively known as Scotch - is the world's leading spirit, and Scotland is home to the largest number of Malt Whisky distilleries in the world. Malt Whisky is classified under four main categories - Highland, Lowland, Speyside and Islay and whisky is categorised in accordance with the region in which the distillery is located.

The Language of Scotland:
The official language is English, although Gaelic is spoken mainly in the north and west of Scotland. The Scots language [which has similarities to English] is the language mainly of the Lowlands, with Gaelic the language of the Highlands and Islands.
