The most important date in the Gracia calendar is the
Fiesta Major in the middle of August.
In the late summer the whole of the barrio joins in a celebration of their own identify, away from the cool Catalan capital. Neighbours and streets vie with each other to decorate the area, and there is entertainment.
Alternative bands rub shoulders with traditinally dressed folkies while the odd Catalan custom of actually climbing on each other's shoulders starts up in the middle of the square. An impressive human castle will rise up from one of the squares to the whooping of the crowd as the brave castellers reach for the sky.
Night time sees the streets explode into fiery sparks, and festive devils [diables] appear on the street at the fire run, the correfoc.
