Holidays in Sweden and Flights to Sweden:
Sweden is Europe's fifth largest country and has snow-capped mountains, countryside dotted with forests and lakes and modern/dynamic cities.
The best starting point to explore Sweden is its capital - Stockholm. From here you can visit the castles of Lake Malaren or head northwards to Uppsala. Travel thoughout Sweden can be done faily easily by high-speed trains or by car, though the long distances involved make travel quite expensive.
Sweden's summers are usually fairly cool, although sometimes there can be heatwaves for several weeks at a time. Winter temperatures often fall below freezing, but it is rarely severely cold, with the exception of the far north. The snow may lie until well after March in the north, but in the rest of Sweden some recent winters have been virtually snow-free.
Eating out in Sweden:Good restaurants in Sweden tend to be small and informal. Food can be expensive - remember that lunch can often be the best value. Some restaurants serve
smorgasbord where you can eat as much as you like at a fixed price. Many menus feature
husmanskost - traditional dishes of home cooking such as Swedish meatballs.
The Language of Sweden:Swedish belongs to the northern group of Germanic languages, along with Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic, and Faeroese. Various dialects are spoken, most notably in Skane, southern Sweden, where the accent is almost Danish.
