LOS CRISTIANOS HOLIDAY GUIDE
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain
If you are planning your holidays in Los Cristianos,
Tenerife, the following information may help by giving you an overview of the resort and the surrounding area.
Los Cristianos is located on the southern Tenerife coast, only 10 miles from the airport. Before the mid-1960s, little existed on this arid, volcanic coastline but some banana plantations and a few scattered fishing villages. Los Cristianos was one such village, and if you look carefully, you can still find traces of the older settlement behind the harbour.
The seafront and the "old town" are mostly pedestianised and crammed with shops, restaurants and bars. A plaza with a pretty white church creates a focal point, but most attention is directed towards the beach. There is plenty to keep you busy on your Los Cristianhos holidays. The main beach [Playa de Los Cristianos] is a sandy beach sheltered by the harbour and boasts a number of facilities including watersports, beach volleyball, showers and a children's play area. Las Vistas beach is located in the next bay beyond the harbour and is man-made, protected by break-waters. It also boasts a number of facilities including watersports, showers and a tourist information site. Los Cristianos and
Playa de las Americas are marketed as separate destinations, and feel quite different, but they more or less merge and function as a single entity. Technically, the dividing line between the two towns is Mount Chayofita.
 | Parque Ecologico Aguilas del Teide - Eagles of Teide Ecological Park For something different on your holidays to Los Cristianos, here is a lush, tropical park that children will love as a change from the beach. Bird shows are the highlight, not just eagles, but condors, flamingos, pelicans and penguins number among the birdlife living here, while animals include crocodiles, pygmy hippos and tigers. If that's not enough - the attractions on site include dodgem boats, a bobsleigh run and other rise. Located on Arona road, 3km from Los Cristianos |
The harbour at Los Cristianos is used by the ferry company Fred Olsen for the short hop to
La Gomera. The harbour is not only a ferry terminal but also a departure point for local dolphin and whale cruises. The harbour is now also a marina with quite an array of boats and yachts.
