PLAYA DE LA ARENA HOLIDAYS & HOTELS
If you are planning your Playa de la Arena holidays, the following information may help by giving you an overview of the resort and the surrounding area, and assist you in selecting from our range of Los Silos hotel.
Scenic Playa de la Arena nestles a little way to the south of
Los Gigantes and
Puerto de Santiago on the west coast of
Tenerife, with hotels and apartments climbing the hills from the shoreline. The award-winning beach is clean, sheltered and gently shelving, and made of black volcanic sand; typical of Tenerife, and is one of the nicest natural beaches although it is only about 200m long. The resort will appeal to families looking for a quiet break and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants at all price ranges. The resort is backed by palms and flowers and protected by rocky headlands. Take care when swimming and beware of any red flags flying when the undertow is strong. However, most of the time the gently shelving sand is perfectly safe.
It is very unfortunate that little of the charm of the old fishing village remains, though it is still possible to sit yourself at one of the harbour bars and watch fishermen tending their nets or landing their catch.
Playa de la Arena has many bars, some with music and opening until late, but few discos or nightclubs. “Cocos” is a friendly and helpful family-owned bar overlooking the sea and serving snacks and typical local tapas. “Ninos II” is an informal and relaxed pizzeria and can be found an Avenida Maritima and is open from 10:00-23:00. “Sala Thai” has all its dishes prepared by the Thai chef [there’s also a takeaway service: Handy for those on self-catering] and also open from 12:30-Midnight. For a wider choice, take a taxi into
Los Gigantes.
If you are looking for the tourist office, this can be found on Avenida Maritima.
 | Ceasar's Palace - keep the children amused in this maze of electronic paraphernalia. Games galore and special rides.
Mirador de Chio - A lovely car drive from Playa de la Arena takes you through inhospitable landscapes to Chio where you can witness the results of Mount Teide's last eruption in 1798. Stop at the Mirador de Chio for breathtaking views of ashen badlands. |
