Holidays in the United Arab Emirates and Flights to the United Arab Emirates [UAE]:

If you are planning a holiday to the United Arab Emirates [UAE] we have given you an overview of the destination. The United Arab Emirates [located in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsular - is a federation of seven Gulf States - Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm-al-Qaiwain, and is bordered by Saudi Arabia, Oman and the Arabian Gulf. The capital city is Abu Dhabi.

The destination comprises deserts, mountains, oases and long coastlines including many islands. The climate is very hot in the desert and is generally subtropical and arid. Because of low rainfall, very little flora grows in the area. However, although rainfall is infrequent, there can be thunderstorms during the winter months. Also, humidity can be high around the coastal areas. Revenues from oil have paid for irrigation along the coast and Ras Al-Khaimah is one of the greenest of the states.

Off the coast you will find coral reefs and many different types of fish. Due to the fact that wells have had to be built for the provision of fresh water, this has lead to an increase in the salt content of the soil due to the decreased water table.

One of the most fascinating developments to have happended recently is the construction of Palm Island which is located closed to Jebel Ali port. Building on this ground of man-made islands include hotels [including the 5 Star Atlantis-The Palm Dubai], a business area, residential accommodation, schools and hospitals.

Eating out in the United Arab Emirates:
Meals usually start with houmous, tahini or stuffed vine leaves. Bread [including pitta bread] is served with rice and often accompanies the main course which comprises chicken, lamb or fish. Spice mixtures are used in the preparation of dishes. Other foods eated are goats cheese, eggs, salad, olives, honey, fruit, almonds and dates.

The Language of the United Arab Emirates:
The official language of the United Arab Emirates is Arabic with English used as a second language in business. Farsi, Urdu and Hindi are also spoken.
